Wanted-Poster-Template.jpg
http://cdn.tripwiremagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Wanted-Poster-Template.jpg

OBJECTIVE: To understand how bacteria or viruses live, their pathology, and modes of transmission.

GOAL: Research one baceria or viral pathogen and produce a "Most Wanted" poster.

BACKGROUND: Each student is required to select one of the following pathogens and make a "Most Wanted" Poster using the established guidelines below. No partners. No one is allowed to do the same pathogen.

PROJECT GUIDELINES:
Make a "Wanted Poster" for one of the bacteria or viruses listed below. In your poster, please include the following:
  1. Disease name (2 marks)
  2. Photo or realistic hand-drawn illustration with labels (5 marks)
  3. Description of the bacteria or virus (3 marks)
  4. Organisms' m.o. (How the organism attacks and spreads) (2 marks)
  5. Most common victims (i.e.: Seniors, infants, people with weakened immune systems, etc.) (2 marks)
  6. 6. What are the symptoms and/or injuries caused by the disease? (3 marks)
  7. Is it considered armed and dangerous (on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being minimal damage and 10 causing death)? Use this scale to rate the degree of damage caused by this illness. (3 marks)
  8. Number of victims (deaths per year or cases of this illness per year) (2 marks)
  9. Is there any immunity or vaccine against the disease? (3 marks)
  10. Include a bibliography. You must use at least 1 print resource for your research. (1 mark)

You must include colour and creativity in your poster. You can create your own cartoon characters to illustrate the disease and its effects. (4 marks)

STEP 1:
Use Ebsco's Consumer Health Completeto start your research.

STEP 2:
Use the following materials from the Reference Section of the WSS Library to research your disease:
REF 610 MER The Merck Manual
REF 616.003 DIS Diseases
REF 616.024 ENG The Complete Canadian Health Guide

STEP 3:
Use the following online encyclopedias to check for information on your topic.
Encyclopedia Britannica Online and World Book Online

STEP 4:
The Library Staff has pulled a number of books that also deal with bacterial and viral diseases. These books are on a cart. Please check these resources out too.
